David Dershimer is an Army Veteran, having served as a Military Policeman in Qui Nhon, Vietnam.  After 3 years on Post 8’s Executive Committee, David currently serves as the First Vice Commander. For 15 years he was a Professional Water Ski Show performer at Cypress Gardens and continues to be a member of the Amateur Cypress Gardens Water Ski Team since 2016.  David is a former Mayor of Winter Haven as has served as the City Commissioner.  He has been the owner of Dershimer Insurance Agency since 1977.  David and his wife, Marci live in Winter Haven and have a seasonal location near Knoxville, TN. They have two adult children, David Jr. and Chrissy Dershimer.

George Wallace is a US Army Veteran and has been a member of the American Legion for over 5 years.  He is retired from the Army after serving for 33 years from January 1986 – April 2019 and is the recipient of the Legion of Merit.  His deployments include Operation Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Joint Forge, and Operation Enduring Freedom.  George has served in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bosnia, and Germany.  He has been the Post Service Officer for over two years and is the Director of Post 8’s American Legion Riders Chapter.  George is also a member of the Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Gino, a Navy Veteran, has been a member of the American Legion for over 2 years.  He completed Boot Camp in Orlando and was assigned to the Naval Base in Rota Spain.  Gino’s next assignment was on the USS Independence CV62, an Aircraft Carrier based out of Norfolk, VA.  Gino serves as Post 8’s Third Vice Commander as well as the Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms for Post 8’s American Legion Riders.

Cathy “P.I.T.A.” Smithmeyer is a US Navy Veteran and has been a member of the American Legion for over 4 years.  She served in the Navy for 4 years, stationed at Commander Submarine Group Two in Groton, Connecticut.  Cathy serves District 7’s Adjutant, Post 8’s America Legion Adjutant as well as Post 8’s American Legion Riders Chapter Adjutant.

Fred Knippenberg is a US Army Veteran and a US Navy Veteran, having spent 5 years in the Navy Reserves from 1955-1960 and Active Army for 3 years from 1960-1963.  He played the trumpet for the 113th 2nd Army Band.  Fred has been a member of the American Legion for over 32 years and is Paid Up For Life (PULF) and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) for 32 years.  He has been a member and the bugler of Post 8’s Honor Guard for over 13 years as well as serving as 1st Lieutenant the past 3 years.  Fred served as a police officer for the city of Fairview Park, Ohio, for 28 years, retiring as a Sergeant Detective.  Fred has played the trumpet for over 75 years toured with several Road Big Bands.  He currently plays with Polk State College’s Chain of Lakes Big Band as well as the Bartow Adult Community Band.

Ron Fraser is a US Navy Veteran and has been a member of the American Legion for over 7 years.  He has received numerous awards on behalf of Post 8 for his history books.

Paul Jacobs, a United States Air Force Veteran, has been a member of the American Legion for over 25 years.   He served during the Vietnam Conflict from 1962-1966  as a flight line mechanic on old Shakey C124C.  Paul’s involvement in American Legion Baseball began in Michigan where he was the Assistant Baseball Chairman for 4 years.  He has been the Legion Baseball Chairman at Post 8 for 8 years.  Paul also serves as the State Eastern Area Chairmen for Legion Baseball.  The American Legion has been a sponsor of Legion Baseball since 1925.  More than 10 million teenagers have played Legion Baseball, learning the importance of Leadership, Teamwork and Team Loyalty, all while sharpening their skills on the baseball diamond.  Post 8 has been a sponsor of American Legion Baseball since 2016.

Mike O’Callaghan is a US Army Paratrooper Veteran and has been a member of the American Legion for over 23 years. He is the current Commander as well as a Past Commander of Post 8. Mike is also the Finance Officer for Post 8’s Sons of the American Legion and a founding member of Post 8’ American Legon Riders Chapter.
